General description

Passive house, zero energy residential building, analyzed in design phase by PHPP calculation tool. Solar thermal and photovoltaic systems are well integrated in the south oriented roof surfaces to reach nearly zero energy targets. In addition to all the main technical solutions commonly suggested in Passivhaus Standard, also heat recovery systems on hot water discharges are adopted. An interesting component is also well integrated solar shading elements consisting in a pergola with climbing deciduous vine guarantying the needed shading in summer and the solar gain in winter. The building envelope and structure are characterized by wood materials (certified osb panels and timber elements, wood wool thermal insulation panels) with high environmental sustainability value. The adopted construction system uses prebuilt building elements, leading to a very precise, high quality and fast construction of the building. The building is visited also by many people as building designers, construction craftsmen, students, policy makers and other interested common people. Energy efficiency and use of renewables

The building envelope shows an high thermal insulation level with thermal transmittance value of 0,11 W/(m2K) for the external walls, 0,10 W/(m2K) for the roof, 0,11 W/(m2K) for the basement, 0,73 as average value for the windows (glazed and frame surfaces included). Great care was adopted to avoid thermal bridges in each details of the thermal envelope, for instance even in the shape and insulation of the timber elements in the envelope. A concrete slab under the floor was placed in direct thermal contact with the indoor environment. This provide a good effective thermal mass to guarantee the proper thermal inertia to the indoor environment in order to control the peaks in indoor air temperatures and to optimize the of free cooling via mechanical or natural ventilation in cooling period and the use of thermal solar gains in heating season. Optimal orientation and well dimensioned solar shading devices were chosen. An interesting component is also a well integrated solar shading elements consisting in a pergola with climbing deciduous vine guarantying the needed shading in summer and the solar gain in winter. This is in addition the installed external movable solar blinds. A mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery was installed. The generation system consists in an high efficiency reversible heat pump (air to water) connected to the low temperature fan-coils producing both convective and radiative effects with high efficiency coefficients. The energy demand for domestic hot water preparation is reduced thanks to the installation of two heat recovery systems on hot water discharges integrated in the floors of the bathrooms. These are horizontal heat recovery components where without direct contact, hot grey-wastewater releases heat to cold clean water flowing to shower or to domestic hot water storage tank. On the south surface of the roof we can find solar thermal vacuum panels for a surface of 3,4 m2, and photovoltaic panels for a total surface of 34,6 m2.
