Arnhem-Nijmegen (Netherlands)
The Arnhem Nijmegen City region, consisting of 20 municipalities, has set the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 – a goal that is complementary to the EU’s requirements of building Nearly Zero Energy Buildings by 2020. This energy transition is a challenge and there is little time to waste, yet some key plans are already in place. The region wants to promote sustainability in building, for example, with its Green Agreement, signed in 2013.
This public-private collaboration between all municipalities, housing associations, and the building sector calls for the application of an instrument known as the GPR Building to measure the sustainability of buildings. The tool is a first step towards an understandable policy on NZEBs.
